Congratulations to 2nd grade teacher, Haley Luquette Broussard, who was named the Dozier Elementary Teacher of the Year today! Principal Andrea Ford announced it at a short assembly with Haley Broussard’s family, on hand.

Mrs. Haley is a 2012 graduate of Erath High School and a 2016 graduate of UL at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught at Forked Island-E. Broussard Elementary School prior to transferring to Dozier as a 2nd grade teacher.

This inspiring educator believes strongly in using hands-on activities to mesh the curriculum and life lessons. She goes above and beyond in her classroom, whether that lies with traditional lessons in reading, math, or other subjects or incorporating life and agriculture lessons. One such experience her students have participated in is garden to table lessons.

In May of 2022, Broussard earned a state title as the 2022 “Louisiana Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year.”

In an Acadiana Advocate newspaper article written in May, it was stated that “Broussard, the daughter of a sugarcane farmer, decided to shake up her classroom approach this school year by weaving hands-on agricultural activities into her lessons, like incubating and hatching chicks, growing sugarcane and rice, and tending a varied school garden.”
In addition to her daily traditional lessons, at the start of this school year, she has already incorporated unique units. In August, her students were able to transplant a variety of lettuce into a Tower Garden growing system. This system was won in a drawing at the National “Ag in the Classroom” Convention this summer. Other lessons included a field trip for all 2nd graders to visit the Konriko Rice Mill, and transforming the school’s rice pond into a crawfish pond. A crawfish carrying eggs on its tails were found and brought to school to stock the tank. The crawfish were rotated through all classrooms before they were placed into the tank.

She is married to Tyler Broussard and together they have two children Evelyn and Mark.  She is the daughter of Mike and Dana Luquette. She has two sisters, Chelsie Domingues and Sydney Luquette.
